Karl Im, CEO and Founder
Karl Im, President and CEO, founded Venture Manufacturing Group in November, 2001. Earning the reputation as a go-to person in the field of medical device technology, turn-key manufacturing and strategic business development, Karl has over twenty five years of experience in medical device design and manufacturing, including fifteen years with start-up medical device businesses. Karl continues to partner with medical device start-ups, providing an expertise launch-pad from design inception through full-scale production. A speaker at Stanford University, and a respected executive in the industry of medical device technology, he holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara.
Richard Baldwin, Director of Quality Assurance
Richard Baldwin brings over thirty years of experience in Quality Assurance in the medical industry. Prior to his work at Venture, he held Director of Quality Assurance positions at Silk Road Medical, Cabochon Aesthetics, Sanarus Medical, Timi3 Systems, and Guidant Corporation (CardioThoracic Systems). Richard has designed and implemented numerous Quality Systems for medical device businesses from start to full-scale production. His knowledge and experience with quality in manufacturing ensures Venture's client partners the highest standards, including pristine medical device manufacturing lines in compliance with ISO 13485 certification.
Bill Northum, Director of Operations
Bill Northum brings 35 years of medical device experience to Venture Manufacturing, mostly in the start-up environment. He was instrumental in establishing new operations for such companies as Oximetrix, Unisurge, Cardiogenesis, Cardeon, Kerberos, and Aptus Endosystems. His experience has included medical device products in cardiovascular stent implants, various catheters for minimally invasive treatment, open chest and laparoscopic surgical instruments as well as capital equipment such as IV Pumps and Oximeters. Bill's background includes Production, Logistics, Materials Management, and for Abbott Laboratories, Bill was National Service Manager responsible for all domestic service for the then Hospital Products Division.
Tom Hwang, Director of Operations, Asia
Tom Hwang serves as the Director of Operations for Venture. Tom had over thirty years of Manufacturing Operations experience in the Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) industry before transitioning to the medical device industry in 2007. His experience includes manufacturing management of multiple off-shore projects with key OEMs in the Silicon Valley area, and managing Venture's overseas operations. Tom brings a wealth of industry experience, which has allowed Venture to seamlessly transfer projects to its low cost operations, while establishing Venture's new EMS business tailored for the medical device industry.
Richard Hill, Director of Engineering
Richard Hill, PMP brings over twenty three years of combined medical device research and development, manufacturing and management experience to the Venture Manufacturing Group Team. Richard has worked in a broad spectrum of companies from small start-up to multi-national corporations managing product development teams, product transfers, launches, and manufacturing improvement initiatives. Some of these companies include Cardima, Medtronic CardioVascular, Devices for Vascular Intervention, Conceptus and LuMend. While at Fresenius Medical Care, Richard completed his Lean Six Sigma black belt training and received his Project Management Certification through UC Berkeley extension. With his experience in the medical device research and development field, he has been the primary and co-inventor on over 14 medical device patents. Richard brings a broad experience base to the Venture team which will help ensure seamless transitions from your development team to our manufacturing facility.
